The hard part of a beach trip is not finding a beach. It is knowing what is on tonight.
Orange Beach and Gulf Shores run on live music. On any given evening in season there are bands playing at the beach bars, the marinas, and the restaurants along the water, and the schedule lives in about fifteen different places — a venue’s social page, a poster by the door, somebody’s story. There has never been one list.
So we built one. Our Orange Beach events calendar is a free app that collects local events, live music lineups, and festival dates in one place, with beach cams and local numbers alongside. It works on a phone, you can add it to your home screen, and you can subscribe the calendar so it updates itself.
The shape of the year
Roughly, and allowing for the fact that this coast never fully shuts down:
- Spring brings the first real crowds, festival season starting up, and the best weather of the year for being outside all day.
- Summer is peak everything — fishing tournaments, live music most nights, and the water full of boats from Perdido Pass out.
- Fallis the local’s secret: warm water, thinner crowds, and the seafood festivals.
- Winter slows down and fills with snowbirds, and the migrating birds show up in the back bays.
Things worth planning around
A few events reliably reshape a weekend here: the big beach music festivals, the fishing rodeos and offshore tournaments, the National Shrimp Festival in October, and the November songwriters’ festival that fills every listening room from Perdido Key to Gulf Shores. If your trip lands on one of those, book early — and if it does not, that is not a bad thing either.
Dates move every year, which is exactly why we keep the calendar rather than printing a list here that would be wrong within a month.
Between the events
The quiet stuff is the reason people come back. Take a boat through the pass at sunset. Fish a half-day trip out to the reefs — see what runs when. Walk the back bays early enough that the water is still glass. Tie off with everybody else in the shallows on a Saturday and stay until the light goes — the raft-up is the local pastime nobody puts on a calendar, and it is what our Raft Up print draws. Most of our designs came from one of those afternoons rather than from anything on a schedule.
